Countries of the world celebrate at Windrose Academy!

Windrose Academy students celebrated a very colourful, successful and enjoyable International Day.  All the Key Stages chose countries to represent.  The countries chosen were Greece, France, Egypt, India, Malaysia, Germany, Spain, Japan, UAE, USA, China, Kenya, Russia, Italy, Philippines, South Korea, and Lebanon. Turkey was also represented by FS1 students and we were honoured to have with us a delegation from the Turkish Embassy.

It was indeed a day to remember.  Not only did the students and teachers wear national costumes, but they also researched and prepared information about each country, as well as sang songs and danced. Students enjoyed tasting the food of their country and in a truly international spirit of peace and love our countries exchanged this knowledge of food and culture with each other.  An amazing fun and educational day was had by everyone in school. At the end of this memorable day, everyone returned to their native habitat, informed and well-nourished!

Windrose Students work on saving the environment

Windrose Academy joins the world to try and save our Environment! Students in all the Key Stages spent 1 week learning about saving the environment by taking part in many activities like; sorting rubbish in labeled bins; planting seeds in the school garden; writing about how to save the environment in English classes and doing various experiments in science. A successful workshop was held by 2 teachers who are enthusiastic about saving the environment which addressed the Sustainability of the Environment. The week ended with a fashion show ‘Junk to Punk’ where students created outfits made from recycled trash.   The final activity and proudly for the first time in school history, Year 4 and 5 students had a Zoom discussion with a school in India to exchange ideas and learn more about how other students of their age group are trying to save the environment.

Our Amazing students showed their parents that they are not just talented, but capable of performing on stage in front of an audience.  With their teachers’ guidance a fun and very exciting programme was put together for Windrose’s annual Winter Assemblies. FS to KS2 presented fun-packed musicals about Santa, elves, snow, and all things festive.  Students also demonstrated their ability to sing Christmas songs in French and German.  KS3 and KS4 impressed the audience with their wonderful and well-rehearsed dance routines.  Everyone enjoyed themselves during these spectacular shows and we look forward to next year’s show.

A healthy body leads to a healthy mind and a healthy mind is the most important tool you can have as a Student and human being.  Windrose Academy celebrated Health Week on 13/11/22.  Students and teachers discussed and carried out activities in class highlighting the importance of being healthy.  Topics ranged from a good night’s sleep to healthy eating and hygiene.  All students were encouraged to bring in healthy food on a daily basis.  All stages had fun learning about the age appropriate topics.  The week ended with a Sports Day for each Key Stage to encourage the idea of keeping fit.

Windrose Academy understands that education can only improve by reading.   Hence, we started our first literacy week with FS on October 31st.  A Book vendor was available to give parents and students the opportunity to buy books.  The FS teachers asked parents to volunteer to read to their child’s class. Many activities were held in FS classes ending with a dress-up day of the students’ favourite characters
